My passion for the outdoors and wildlife developed from a young age when our family would vacation at our private game reserve in northern Zululand. My passion was enhanced with practical knowledge and developed at the University of Natal where I studied Wildlife Management and Conservation, graduating with a BSc degree in 2007.

Field trips into the bush and outdoor studies occupied most of my time whilst studying and during vacations I would help with research and field studies for post graduate students. Immediately after graduating, I trained as a game ranger at the world-famous MalaMala Private Game Reserve, where I was resident for seven years as Head Ranger and Head Photographic Ranger. During my time at MalaMala, my passion for ecotourism, wildlife, photography and travel grew to the point where I knew this would be my lifetime career.

At the end of 2010 the travel bug hit and a friend and I decided to tour the United States of America for six months. I had an immensely uplifting and educational time visiting places and friends, most of which were previous guests at MalaMala. The combination of travel and the personal interaction encouraged me to pursue my dream of Private Guiding and so Matt Meyer Safaris was born.
